Happiness……A feared Emotion?

3337790_L.jpg

Why do we fear being happy? Why are we unable to bask in all the pleasure of feeling joy, excitement, love and happiness without the niggling feelings of what if? Like eating chocolate, enjoying the smooth creamy amazingness while checking out the packet and seeing the calories and imagining what the scales will say the next morning. Is this really living life fully? How do you fully let go and let yourself fully indulge in the moment?

It starts with you…

Feeling happy or positive emotions can spark feelings of vulnerability and weakness, these feelings often show up by thinking up worst case scenarios shifting our focus from our current happiness. For example going on holiday abroad on the aeroplane and about to land…………chances are you are going to land safely but why is there that horrible anticipation to feel the wheels of the plane to touch the ground? In that moment do building up the plane landing we are unable to feel the happiness fully, its dampened and numbed by fear and worry.

We also feel that we must make a conscious effort to feel these emotions to feel worthy, we must get this job, these clothes, beat our personal best in the gym, lose a stone until we are worthy of our own happiness. Flip it around and we do not have to do anything to feel sad, down, depressed as we are somehow ready to accept these emotions and feelings readily without any actions to “earn” them. Why? Why do we have to work so hard for our happiness?……….We don’t.

Let go of perfection

Firstly, ditch being perfect. In reality no one cares if you are perfect, and it’s a dangerous spiral to go down. You will never be truly happy with anything if you are always pointing out the flaws…..there will always be flaws and always ways where things can be improved. Why are we so ready to point out what is wrong and not ready to praise and be happy with everything that is wright. (See what I did there, its ok let it go………right!!)

Get ready to feel Gratitude

Concentrate on the positives and be grateful. Is the sun shining? Are you healthy? If you are ready to accept the positives in your life, you are already on the path of being happy and making it a daily habit. Creating a morning ritual can help with this, keep it simple- think of three things that you are grateful for while brushing your teeth in the morning. By doing this your awareness has already kicked in to look for things that make you happy during the day. For example, if I mention the colour red right now, you will subconsciously be looking for the colour red right now…….even if you try not to!!!!! Its already there in your subconscious and is a very powerful and simple tool to use. Aim for 3 things that make you feel grateful………don’t worry if you get carried away!

Self Love and Understanding

Yes I saw you wince!!!!! Self LOOOOOOOVEEEEE!!!!! Why do we feel instantly stand offish and weird when we talk about self love. As soon as we talk about self love people begin to think of narcissists and visualise people kissing their own reflection. Why do we never think of the healthy version?? This goes beyond the mere accepting yourself, this is whole heartily loving the person you are mind, body and soul. Its knowing that you deserve happiness, a fantastic life, love, money, friends, health and all those amazing things that life has to offer. You are worthy.

Going a step deeper, it’s also knowing that you can trust yourself. Enjoy everything as no matter what happens you are more than capable to tackle any situation that arises and conquer it. It’s having that confidence in yourself. If you do not feel like you can trust yourself, then why? Challenge yourself and thoughts around that belief and solve it. You are capable of more than you will ever know. Think about events from your past and see where you are now- you made it, even if you got a few bruises and scratches on the way.

Self Awareness

Open up your awareness and bring yourself back to this very moment. Check in with yourself every now and again and ask yourself what are you feeling right now? Are you happy? What will make you happy? Are you stopping your happiness? Opening yourself up to what you are feeling will help you understand yourself better, it gives you a chance to shake of the stress and any negativity you are currently feeling too.

If you are struggling at all ask yourself if you could feel any emotion, what would it be? Take a moment and picture yourself feeling that emotion and practice feeling it. Then be conscious to do day to day actions that are in line with those emotions. Meditate, take a bath, watch a funny film, go out or on holiday with friends, go for a walk……the choices are endless, its whatever works for you.

Remember, your life is worth more than you will ever know. How do you choose to appreciate yours? Life is so short; how do you choose to feel? Get the best out of you by investing in yourself. You deserve it and you deserve to be happy.

A helping hand for those going through Stress & Anxiety

adult-background-beach-296282

Stress and anxiety are more common than you think. It can feel hard to reach out for help when they hit, sometimes it can feel that nothing can help…….that’s where NLP comes in.

NLP reprograms our minds to help us go through these tough situations more at ease. It gives us the space to feel more ourselves and more in control. By creating the mind-set that we want, it can change the feel of the experience entirely!

Here I will share with you a few tips that you can try if you are suffering from stress or anxiety:

  • Take time out to take some deep breaths, breathe into the bottom of your stomach
  • Write down specifically what you are stressed/have anxiety over- be as specific as you can. Be sure to write it down, even if you destroy the paper shortly afterwards. By writing it down it has a strong psychological effect on our mental state.
  • Think about how you’d like to feel instead
  • Take yourself to after the situation, how does it feel after then?

If you are being impacted by stress or anxiety, please feel free to drop us a message below.

My Personal Journey with NLP and weight loss- The progress so far…..

We may have the diet plan, the gym membership etc but if we don’t have the right mindset then lets face it…..these things really do not matter!

The 2017 picture of me is a tough one for me to look at. This picture was when my confidence and self worth were extremely low, I didn’t enjoy getting dressed up and going out, if you got the camera out I would be the one dodging out of the photo or at the very least I’ll place my 5ft 2 self behind someone so you couldn’t see my body. It’s actually really hard to relate to my old self, it’s incredible to feel the huge shift that I’ve had so far.

For the first time in my life using the glorious NLP knowledge I feel completely at peace with my body and weight loss. I actually know that I can lose weight EASILY due to having and creating the right mindset through NLP. Crazily enough since becoming NLP certified I’ve lost 9lb in 4 weeks! I’ve not changed my exercise habits and I’ve still eaten out and ENJOYED food!

My weight use to be sooooo unbelievably out of control. I was an emotional eater but I also used food to punish myself. My only successful diets were “heart break diets”. I found it easy to deprive myself in that horrible state of mind. On the opposite end of the scale I could gorge on stress, boredom and restlessness. I hate to admit this but……after a horrible shoulder joint injection for an MRI scan, I decided to eat a whole box of celebrations to my self to “soothe” the awful traumatic experience!

Evenings use to be the worst too, I’d get home from work and make a beeline for the cupboards! Nutella on toast with a cuppa tea or a few biccys would be my “pre dinner starter” while watching what I have recorded on catch up…… Dinner Dates, First Dates, Cake Boss…..hmmmm there’s a slight theme there!

Now whenever I have things jump out at me in life, I no longer feel the need to reach out to the kitchen cupboard. When I watch tv I’m not conditioned to watch it with a snack or tasty treat. I’m currently juggling alot more on a daily basis than I use to, yet I’m the smallest I’ve been in over 6 years! I even lost weight while studying and taking a 3.5hr Tax exam! This would usually be prime time for weight gain! This NLP malarkey is truly life changing.

I’m still travelling along on my weightloss journey but after losing 9lb in 4 weeks, still enjoying food, not feeling deprived, I have plenty of energy and I’ve not upped the exercise its made me sooo excited to share these NLP techniques for weightloss with those that have also shared my struggles.

When is it time to check in?

Our bodies are amazing, they tell us when we are hungry, thirsty tired and we respond….. they even let us know when something is more seriously wrong. We then go to a doctor for treatment, or a dentist, or even a physiotherapist!! But what about our emotional states?

Yes, when we have problems or emotional struggles we may choose to turn to family and friends for support but would we do the same with a broken leg? Or a chest infection? When things are a little more serious than the “common cold”, how bad must it get before we are prepared to reach out to a professional?

computer-1149148_1280

Our bodies are so important, but our minds are too. What stops us from looking after our minds and emotional states? Is it fear of not being normal? Or perfect? We all have struggles now and again, we all have colds, infections, sprains……what about things like anxiety, stress, grief, fear, self doubt…….how big do these things really need to get before we class them as a problem? or as something that is holding us back? Why do we just choose to live with it? Or worse, let it define us?

When the pain or niggle becomes a daily battle, it can feel like the heaviest weight to carry around with us. Sometimes we don’t know where to start to let it go or how to nurse it better. Family and friends maybe around to help us voice our problems and provide some advice and support but sometimes a professional can get to the route cause a lot quicker and prescribe the right treatment.

How does life feel differently without the pain and niggles?…………How does freedom feel?

Sometimes like a chest infection, it just takes one doctors appointment to nip it in the bud. Its ok to reach out, we are all human………

NLP- What is it????

adult-background-beach-296282

Starting my NLP journey, I have had so many people ask me “What is NLP”……funnily enough, hearing the words Neuro Linguistic Programing isn’t quite enough for most people.

My spin on explaining what NLP is, is that its something that can help create the emotional state that you want to be in. Its a very strong and powerful process which usually creates results within a few short moments.

Its amazing to see the variety of ways NLP can be used. It can release fears and phobias, remove food addictions, it can release emotional blockages, stress, anxiety. It can create confidence, peace and relaxation. It is a tool that can be used to help build relationships, it can be used in any career and any situation…….it is THAT versatile!

To start with I didn’t quite believe…..or appreciate how amazing and influential NLP is. That was until a friend kindly talked to me about NLP, about the techniques and how it worked etc. One technique that was explained to me was how to help people give up certain foods that they are addicted too, they used chocolate as an example. For those of you that do not know me personally yet, or personally back then…… chocolate was a staple part of my diet. If there was a food that I would eat EVERYDAY without fail, it was chocolate (,especially Kinder Buenos!). Well after a 5 minute chat, only explaining the technique, my chocolate cravings had disappeared………… to this day I still no longer eat chocolate. It was then I suddenly knew that this NLP was the real deal.

Going on my first NLP course, I got to experience not only helping people by using NLP techniques but I also had people use the techniques on myself. So I fully understand the way these techniques work and how easy they are to apply in a way that stays with you. The feeling of being released from emotions and mental limitations that are holding you back is just euphoric- its something that will stay with me forever. Life will never be the same, only better.
